Holden is Kicked Out of Pencey Prep

In the first few chapters of The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield is kicked out of his school, Pencey Prep. He failed all of his classes except for English. Since he no longer goes to the Prep Academy, he must return to his home in New York. He lives in South Central Park in New York with his parents. Central Park is 843 acres. Before his journey home, he stops by Mr. Spencer's house to visit him one last time.

The yellow pin in the picture to the left is in the area of where Holden lives.

Question: Why did Holden visit Spencer's house?

Comments: Holden received a letter from Mr. Spencer asking if he could come by his house. Holden wanted to say good-by to at least one person since he knew he would be leaving Pencey Prep. Although he was disgusted at Mr. Spencer's house, Holden still felt bad that he was leaving.
